Huntington Beach has lost a cherished member of the community. Bradley Neil DeWitt passed away on February 21, 2025, at the age of 80, after developing complications from sepsis. His untimely departure has left the hearts of many aching and a lasting legacy behind.

A Life Well Lived

Bradley, or Brad as he was affectionately known, was born on September 3, 1944, in Gothenburg, Nebraska. His parents, Alvor, lovingly nicknamed Red, and Betty Brooks DeWitt, raised him in a warm and welcoming environment. The DeWitt family later settled in Cozad, Nebraska, where Brad enjoyed a childhood filled with adventure and mischief, from fishing and hunting to running through endless cornfields.

Growing up, Brad displayed a competitive spirit that was unmistakable, excelling in high school sports at Cozad High School. He graduated in 1962, leaving a mark as a star player in baseball, football, and track—a true athlete at heart.

Education and Career

After finishing high school, Brad headed to the Colorado Technical University in Denver, where he earned a degree in Information Technology. Once he completed his studies, excitement led him to Southern California, where he embarked on a promising career in Computer Science and IT.

With an adventurous spirit, Brad felt the call of duty when he joined the U.S. Army. He served in the 4/39th Infantry Division in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, showcasing bravery that was recognized when he received an honorable discharge in 1968. His service in the army shaped much of his character and instilled values that stayed with him for life.

Passion for Life

Brad was more than just a soldier and a tech enthusiast; he was a true outdoor enthusiast as well. He found joy in golfing, bowling, and hunting with his beloved brother, Walt. The thrill of riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle alongside friends filled his later years with excitement and adventure. He often shared stories of laughter and camaraderie with fellow riders, which brightened his days.

A highlight of his week was his cherished “coffee group” of friends who gathered regularly to catch up, sip on hot brews, and share life’s moments. Brad also had a soft spot for his dog, Marley, who was his loyal companion throughout many adventures.

Family and Community Connections

Bradley was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Walter Allen DeWitt, and his daughter, Michelle “Shelley” DeWitt, who he missed dearly. He is survived by his devoted wife, Natalie, stepdaughter Kimberlee (Bart), nephews Wade and Eric (Julie), six grandchildren, and a niece named Emma. His family meant the world to him, and the love he had for them was unmistakable.

Although he lived in Southern California, Nebraska always held a cherished place in his heart. This land shaped him in so many ways, instilling a deep sense of pride and connection that remained throughout his life.

Final Resting Place

Bradley’s remains will be laid to rest at the Riverside National Cemetery, accompanied by an Honor Detail as a tribute to his service. Family and friends are busy planning a “Celebration of Life” event where stories and memories can be shared, ensuring that his spirit and legacy live on in everyone’s heart.

Bradley Neil DeWitt will be forever loved, missed, and remembered by his family and the many lives he touched in his remarkable journey. His warmth, humor, and zest for life will stay alive in the memories of all who knew him.
