Born on September 3, 1944, in Boise, Idaho, Bill’s early years shaped him into the fascinating individual he became. After spending some time in Portland, Oregon, his life found its way to Vacaville, California. However, it was in Idaho that he truly left his mark, graduating from Madison High School in Rexburg.

Interestingly, Bill took a unique path to graduation, trading his final two credits for an enlistment in the Army. During his high school years, he joined the National Guard, which speaks volumes about his character and commitment.

The Beginning of a Radio Career

After finishing school, Bill’s passion for radio led him to attend the William B. Ogden Radio Operational Engineering School in Huntington Beach, California. His radio career kicked off in Rexburg but quickly took him up and down the West Coast, making stops in cities like Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, and back to Boise.

Bill didn’t just stop at radio—he also made waves in television. He became a familiar face on Channel 2 and Channel 12 News in Boise, connecting with viewers and earning their respect as a reliable source of information.

A Life Beyond Radio

In addition to his broadcasting career, Bill served as a Public Information Officer for the Idaho Division of Building Safety for nearly a decade. His professional contributions to the community were only matched by his zest for adventure.

Bill was an accomplished skydiver, having completed over 250 jumps. As an excellent trap shooter and hunter, he collected numerous awards for his skills, showcasing his love for the outdoors and competitive spirit.

Family First

Among all his achievements, Bill often said his children were the best thing that ever happened to him. He leaves behind three children: Ami (married to Nathan) Jeppesen, and twins Ben and Sean (married to Tiffany) Hatch. In addition, he was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, forming a family legacy that will surely keep his spirit alive.

Bill’s heart also belonged to his sisters, Barbara Bice and Debbie Stoneman. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert Hatch and Betty Genieve Hatch, along with siblings Thomas Craig Hatch and Ronald Everett Hatch.
