The Buellton community is mourning the loss of Rebecca Jane Groves, affectionately known as Becki. She passed away at 77, leaving a legacy of love and family. Originally from Virginia, Becki had a rich professional career and was a devoted mother and grandmother. Friends and family remember her warmth, compassion, and the deep bonds she nurtured. A celebration of her life is being planned as the community reflects on her cherished memories.
Buellton residents are mourning the loss of Rebecca Jane Groves, affectionately known as Becki, who passed away on May 10, 2025, at the age of 77. Becki died at the Mission Park Healthcare Center in Santa Barbara, California, leaving behind a legacy of love and family.
Originally from Abingdon, Virginia, Becki was born on December 8, 1947, to Mildred Jane (Hockett) and John Fletcher Kennedy. She graduated from Huntington Beach High School in California in 1966 and furthered her education at Santa Barbara City College and Hancock College. In her professional career, Becki dedicated many years to banking and served with the Santa Barbara County Probation department until her retirement due to disability in 2005.
Becki cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her devoted husband, Tom Groves, her daughter Shannon (Sipes) Nolan, stepdaughter Sarah (Groves) Thaler, and daughter-in-law Xandie (King) Groves. Her family also includes her two beloved grandchildren, Layne and Dalton, who brought her great joy. She was predeceased by her brother Johnny and her son Timothy, as well as her parents.
A woman of many interests, Becki enjoyed travel, gardening, and spending quality time with her family. Her love for her family was a significant part of her life, and she nurtured deep bonds with her loved ones. Those who knew her remember her warmth and compassion.
Following her passing, Becki will be cremated and interred at Carpinteria Cemetery. The community is coming together to celebrate her life and remember the impact she had on the lives of her family and friends.
As Buellton reflects on Becki’s legacy, it is evident that her spirit will continue to live on through the cherished memories she created with those she loved deeply.
