Notably, each division can host a maximum of 32 teams in its playoff field, allowing for a competitive and engaging environment.

Among the champions heading into the playoffs are teams from the Big VIII League, Trinity League, Sunset League, and Mission League. This year’s postseason marks a significant milestone for some teams, as it is their first qualification since 2010. The focus is particularly on several key teams that have made a name for themselves throughout the season, including notable second-place finishers from both the Trinity and Mission Leagues.

Teams from the Gateway League and the undefeated Ambassador League have also made the playoff list, while the Crestview League champions and the Bay League champions, who finished the regular season undefeated with a stellar 12-0 record, are highlighted as strong contenders. The Mustangs enter the postseason with an impressive 24-game winning streak, setting the tone for an exciting playoff run.

The final CIF Southern Section Top 25 rankings, released on May 7, positioned Corona, St. John Bosco, Huntington Beach, and Crespi as the top four teams, setting a competitive tone for the playoffs.

The rankings for Divisions 1 through 9, scheduled to tighten the competition, are as follows:

  • Division 1: Corona (26-2)
  • Division 2: La Habra (19-9)
  • Division 3: Colony (22-6)
  • Division 4: Woodridge (19-9)
  • Division 5: Northwood (12-15)
  • Division 6: Shadow Hills (12-14)
  • Division 7: Channel Islands (12-13)
  • Division 8: Colton (10-16)
  • Division 9: Loma Linda Academy (13-0)

This is also the inaugural year for the competitive equity model, aimed at determining playoff placements and seedings in a more balanced manner. For Division 1, there are no at-large berths available; however, five teams will enjoy byes in the opening round. High-profile teams such as Corona, Crespi, Huntington Beach, St. John Bosco, and Aquinas will not see action until the second round.

Interestingly, it is noteworthy that the top seeds in Divisions 5, 6, 7, and 8 all hold below .500 records, as they are automatic qualifiers from their respective leagues.
