Breaking News: Orange County Restaurants Shut Down Over Health Violations

In a surprising turn of events for food lovers in Orange County, eight restaurants and food establishments have been ordered to close their doors due to serious health violations between April 24 and May 1. Many of these eateries are local favorites, known for their delicious offerings but have now found themselves in hot water with health inspectors. It serves as a crucial reminder for everyone on the importance of food safety.

What’s Happening?

Inspectors have been busy ensuring that food facilities stick to safety regulations. On April 2 alone, they shut down five establishments following serious violations. Those closures included a mix of well-known and beloved local spots, leaving fans of the establishments eager to see when they will be back in action.

Details on the Closed Restaurants

Here’s a closer look at the restaurants affected:

  • The Cellar: This charming new American restaurant located in San Clemente is loved for its truffle popcorn, duck ravioli, and creamy lobster bisque. Unfortunately, it hasn’t met health standards and is now closed until it can prove compliance.
  • Subway: The popular sandwich chain was shut down due to issues with their 3-compartment sink, among other health violations. Regular customers will need to find their sub fix elsewhere for the time being.
  • Master Hu: A go-to spot in Irvine for Hunan cuisine lovers, known for delectable dishes like Mongolian beef and savory ramen, was also ordered to close after failing a health check.
  • The Fire Crab: Seafood fans won’t be able to indulge in their favorite crawfish and Cajun garlic noodles anytime soon as this establishment has been shut down due to health violations.

To get back to serving their customers, these establishments must prepare corrective actions and undergo re-inspections. Master Hu is already scheduled for re-inspection on April 4, while The Cellar is slated for its turn on April 9. Unfortunately, the follow-up dates for Subway and The Fire Crab have not yet been reported, leaving patrons in suspense.

Previous Violations Add to Concerns

Now, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time some local spots have found themselves on the inspector’s radar. Earlier, on March 26, violations were reported at two additional eateries, each facing serious concerns:

  • Chicama Peruvian Restaurant: A spot known for its delightful empanadas and tamales, this Cerritos Ave establishment found itself with some troubling issues, including rodent droppings discovered in the food preparation area as well as empty soap dispensers.
  • Sincerely Syria: This Syrian gem on S Magnolia Ave was flagged for multiple health problems, like the presence of live cockroaches in the sink and persistent hot water maintenance issues. Not surprisingly, both restaurants had to close until they can rectify these violations.

Both Chicama and Sincerely Syria have been given instructions to temporarily shut down and have the option to request a hearing regarding their closure within 15 days. It’s a challenging time for these businesses, but it certainly highlights the significance of keeping a clean and safe kitchen environment.

What’s Next?

As these restaurants work on addressing the violations, customers are left wondering how soon they can enjoy their favorite dishes again. Local health departments will continue to ensure that food safety regulations are met, and we can only hope these establishments can turn things around quickly.

So, if you’re in Orange County, make sure to stay updated on your favorite restaurants—because the kitchen is getting a serious makeover before they can welcome you back through their doors again!
