Sea Salt Honky Tonk offers a unique cultural experience at Bolsa Chica State Beach.
Sea Salt Honky Tonk has officially opened at Bolsa Chica State Beach, offering a unique cultural experience for country music fans in Orange County. This beach-side venue combines live music, a bluegrass brunch, and a culinary partnership with a Michelin-rated restaurant. With distinctive decor and a vibrant atmosphere, Sea Salt aims to enhance beach dining and entertainment, featuring live performances and themed events throughout the summer.
Bolsa Chica State Beach has welcomed a new addition to its offerings with the opening of Sea Salt Honky Tonk at the Beach on Saturday, marking a significant celebration for country music fans in Orange County. This reimagined beach concession aims to provide a unique cultural experience in a vibrant atmosphere dedicated to the genre.
This venue stands out as the world’s only honky tonk located on a beach, featuring distinctive elements such as saloon doors, a giant horseshoe, and walls adorned with country music lyrics alongside murals proclaiming “Orange Country” and “Wild Wild West.”
Alicia Cox, who heads the Prjkt Restaurant Group, oversees the concession and has a vision of crafting a space that encourages photo opportunities reminiscent of popular destinations like Tulum. The purpose of Sea Salt is not only to provide entertainment but also to enhance the dining experience at state beaches.
As part of its offerings, Sea Salt will host live music showcases throughout the summer, featuring a mix of both emerging talent and well-known artists. Additionally, visitors can look forward to a bluegrass brunch every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., which includes a delightful menu of bottomless pancakes and mimosas, followed by line dancing lessons.
The culinary experience at Sea Salt is enhanced by Heritage Barbecue, a Michelin Bib Gourmand-winning restaurant based in San Juan Capistrano. Co-founder Daniel Castillo is set to serve a variety of delicious offerings, such as tri-tip, chicken, ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, all prepared with a focus on California barbecue styles. The venue boasts a giant wood-burning rotisserie smoker that can smoke as many as 100 chickens at a time.
The collaboration between Cox and Castillo was influenced by a mutual connection to Riip Beer Co., helping to elevate the festive dining and entertainment atmosphere of the honky tonk.
In terms of regular entertainment, Sea Salt will feature a Sunday residency from the band Redneck Rodeo and host Western Family Nights every other Friday with performances by Raul Esperanza. Promotions for the venue are also planned in collaboration with country artist J.T. Harker to attract a larger audience.
Adding to the excitement, PCH Tacos is anticipated to open soon at Pacific Kitchen, located south of Sea Salt. This new establishment aims to evoke the culinary spirit of Puerto Vallarta or Cabo San Lucas, further enriching the beach dining experience.
Cox’s ambition for Sea Salt is to create a cultural epicenter at Bolsa Chica State Beach that reflects the diverse and unique characteristics of Southern Californian culture. By combining recreational activities with improved culinary offerings, this venue aims to enhance visitors’ experiences at state beaches throughout the area.
